Firm of the Future Profile: PB Tax and Accounting Services

Read the Article

Welcome back to our Firm of the Future profile series about thriving firms who are benefitting from the cloud and QuickBooks® Online Accountant (QBOA) to better serve clients and find new revenue opportunities. In this new article, we spotlight Pam Bingham of PB Tax and Accounting Services.

Mindy King: Tell us about your accounting and/or tax practice.

Pam Bingham: We provide accounting, bookkeeping and tax preparation to individuals and small business owners. We also provide QuickBooks setup, cleanup and training. We’ve been partnering with Score for two years now, providing QuickBooks Online (QBO) training to small business owners.

MK: How long have you been using QBOA?

PB: I’ve been using QBOA consistently for five years. I briefly used it prior to that, but was not convinced that I could service the clients as well as the desktop product could. Intuit® has made huge strides in offering integrated apps that support the product, allowing more versatility for all types of clients.

MK: What convinced you to make the move to QBOA?

PB: I started with my own company’s books. I figured that if I could effectively manage my bookkeeping, I could have the confidence needed to support clients.

MK: If you use Intuit® ProConnect™ Tax Online, how is your firm benefitting from the QBOA/ProConnect Tax Online integration?

PB: The integration with QBOA and ProConnect Tax Online has been a wonderful tool for us. We’re able to create accurate trial balances that really provide for a great workflow. It reduces the amount of data entry, thereby reducing the potential for errors.

MK: What are your goals for your practice this year?

PB: I’m always working on improving our practice management system, and this year I’m excited about all the new functionality of QBOA Practice Management, particularly the integration of non-QBO clients. QBOA Practice Management will become our single source of managing our clients and workload.

MK: What’s your favorite away-from-the-office place to get work done?

PB: Local coffee shops, of course, are no brainers, but I’ve been known to take long drives along the coast with my laptop and enjoy the beach views as well.

MK: Where’s the craziest place you’ve done work for a client?

PB: A yacht on the Mediterranean Sea in France.

MK: What’s your number one timesaving tip?

PB: Have a workflow system in place and stick to it. I didn’t have this in place when I began my practice five years ago, but have been working diligently on creating processes and integrating them into my practice management system to run a more efficient practice.

MK: When you’re not working, what’s your favorite way to spend your time?

PB: I’ve got this amazing grandson who is just the joy of my life, so any time I can spend with him is great.

MK: What advice do you have for peers who are still on desktop?

PB: It’s certainly time to give QBO a try. The product is a full-functioning accounting system that can handle a wide range of client types. The freedom to not have to work in one location is, without a doubt, one of the biggest benefits. Having the option to work on multiple device types, such as tablets and cell phones, and not having the burden of choosing PC or Mac, has certainly made the transition worthwhile.
